Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) Testing

Pressure relief devices such as a safety valve or pressure relief valves prevent a system from becoming over pressurized. Their proper function is essential, pressure relief devices must be inspected according to OEM recommendations, the inspection should verify that:

  • The device is appropriate for current use.
  • The set pressure is correct.
  • The installation is correct and the device functions while system is in operation.
  • Defective device(s) must be replaced immediately.

Because safety is of the highest priority when dealing with pressure relief valves. The valve is designed to limit system pressure, and it is critical that they remain in working order to prevent incidents or accidents.

Periodic testing and adjustment of pressure relief valves is essential to maintain overall safety whether in Oil & Gas, Power Generation, Refineries, Chemical/Plastics, Steel Manufacturing, and many other industries. The most common test method for safety valves and relief valves is a bench test, performed in a controlled environment. Such tests typically occur in conjunction with the disassembly, inspection and repair or replacement of the PRV.

Techmar offshore and onshore testing and calibration services for Pressure Relief Valves (PRV) are inspected and tested in accordance with international codes and in compliance with manufacturers recommended practices.

Before testing proceeds, we will dispatch a customised offshore certified testing workshop to support and facilitate the inspection, testing, certification and calibration of PRV’s.

Techmar’s testing workshop are custom built from 10 x 8 Containers which are constructed to the highest standards to enable a professional, efficient and safe controlled environment; this in turn means that Techmar inspection personnel are independent from Rig Workshops / Resources and Equipment.

This enables our testing technicians to carry out a professional and efficient testing service in a safe environment while also in a controlled laboratory environment.

All our Technicians are qualified, experienced employees of Techmar, and are experienced and up to date with the latest API and ASME Standards and recommendations.
